Technological Institutes & the Future of Facade Design

Over the last few decades, the performance of enclosure systems has improved markedly. While architectural and engineering practices are the active practitioners in installing the most recent technologies for building facades, much of the research begins at the university level. Of UNC Charlotte’s research labs, the Integrated Design Research Lab and the Sustainable Integrated Buildings and Sites Lab are at the forefront of developing and testing new technologies and techniques to boost facade performance.

Booming Uptown: The Skyrises Transforming the Queen City

Downtown Charlotte is one of the fastest growing construction markets in the country. New high-rises are rising on formerly vacant or underutilized land within the area. For this panel, Little will be presenting their under construction, and nearly 400-foot tall Ally Charlotte Center. Duda|Paine, out of Durham, will be diving into their dramatically curved Dimensional Place, similarly located in the core of the city.
