Arthur Andersson and Chris Wise, founders of Andersson / Wise, will present the Campsite at Shield Ranch, a new summer camp for underprivileged children located along Barton Creek. Using prefabricated systems, the firm designed a cluster of air-condition-less buildings that can be naturally ventilated via moveable screens. The architects will describe the technical challenges of building off the grid as well as their contextual approach to materiality and scale, which drove them to use locally-sourced cedar among other materials.

Scott Ginder, founding principal and CEO of Forge Craft Architecture + Design will present Zilker Studios, an all-electric affordable housing development in Austin, Texas. Through extensive energy modeling, as well as the use of heavy insulation and moisture barriers behind its EIFS and aluminum facade, Zilker Studios has achieved a four star green building rating from Austin Energy.

Ginder will also compare the energy use intensity (EUI) of Forge Craft’s completed affordable housing projects, analyzing construction cost, operating cost, and performance of the installed systems.
