The Stanford University School of Medicine’s Center for Academic Medicine has created a specialized academic workplace aimed at combating clinician and resident burnout. Through an integrated planning process, the facility promotes rejuvenation and inclusivity. Key features include equitable access to natural light, community spaces, and inclusive amenities like gender-neutral restrooms. The building aims for net-zero energy, emphasizing sustainability and wellness, with spaces designed for respite and collaboration, fostering a supportive environment for staff working long hours.

10:15 – 11:00 AM
In this roundtable session, attendees will learn about the advanced building envelope products and services that are transforming the AEC industry. These advancements allow designers, engineers, and contractors to work smarter, build better, and realize their design intent.

11:00 -11:30 AM
11:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Please join us for an overview of the latest Berkeley Lab research, tools, and facilities for supporting facade companies and professionals! We will share the latest information from several field demonstrations of advanced or underutilized window technologies, including thin triple windows, vacuum insulated glazing, automated shades with advanced controls, and exterior window films. Also covered will be the most recent developments in Berkeley Lab’s widely used software tools, such as WINDOW, THERM, and Radiance, as well as newer tools for controlling and integrating dynamic facades. Finally, we will go over Berkeley Lab’s multiple test facilities – thermal/optical characterization labs and full scale testbeds such as FLEXLAB – which, besides supporting our research, are also available to the industry for rigorous, expert evaluation of facade system performance.

12:00 – 12:45 PM
This roundtable with leading building materials manufacturers will discuss the advanced materials newly available and just around the corner. Learn how architects can work together with manufacturers to build with the latest, most up-to-date technologies, code requirements, and products, and hear what’s next for the industry.

12:45 – 1:45 PM
1:45 – 2:30 PM
Leading mass timber experts from design, construction and research will discuss rapid rise of mass timber in California through structural and building envelope applications, emerging trends, and future developements that are transforming the field.
Moderated by: Forrest Zhang
2:30 – 3:15 PM
Natalie Telewiak, Principal at Michael Green Architecture and Lisa Rammig, Director at Eckersley O’Callaghan Engineers will share 1265 Borragas. Google’s first mass timber building offers incredible expression of high-performance design: both inside and out. From the timber structure to highly detailed interiors of exposed mass timber, an innovative wood closed cavity façade system, and a timber-glass skylight, the project sets new standards for biophilic and structural design, construction techniques, material sourcing, and carbon reduction.
3:15 – 3:45 PM
3:45 – 4:30 PM
Rebecca Sharkey, Partner at EHDD and Felix Weber, Principal and Facade Specialist at RDH Building Science will present case studies and lessons learned from renovating modern icons like the AIA HQ in Washington DC, Arthur Erikson’s Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver and others. They will discuss how performance improvements, envelope upgrades, and restoration work can bring new life to these buildings and the unique design and engineering challenges to working with these buildings.
Moderated by: Levi J. Rippy
4:30 – 5:00 PM
From high-rise exteriors to expansive lobby spaces, David Brenner has integrated greenery into some of the largest and most complex projects across North America. He will discuss lessons-learned in living wall design through case studies on the newly opened UC Berkeley Anchor House and discuss biophilic facade design and plant system integration.
