On June 4th, Grimshaw Architects and SG Blocks, a Brooklyn-based firm specializing in the design and fabrication of container-based structures, announced a master services agreement
Through this partnership, Grimshaw Architects will serve as the premier design partner of SG Blocks, incorporating the container-based structures into its broad portfolio of ongoing and future industrial design projects. Additionally, the two firms will pool their research and development, investigating opportunities to introduce container-based building technology to a broad typology of projects.
In signing a master services agreement with SG Blocks, Grimshaw Architects will be able to take advantage of the firm’s accreditation with the International Code Council (ICC). As the only container construction company with an exclusive ESR number from the ICC, SG Blocks will provide Grimshaw Architects an unrivaled degree of product customization, and an accelerated timeline between production and installation.
Paul Galvin, Chairman and CEO of SG Blocks, stated that the partnership with Grimshaw Architects will expand SG Block’s global footprint, allowing the firm to “create container-based facilities of the future that set the highest possible standards of excellence.”
Grimshaw Architects is an international architectural practice based in London. The firm is known for its industrial-inspired design, which includes projects such as Manhattan’s Fulton Center and Sydney’s Harbor Mill Apartments.
